Alumashield composite fence system:
Top
- Will my fence ever rust?
- A: No. The composite fence system exposes only powder coated aluminum alloy to the elements. Because of this the powder coating adheres very well and even if it is scratched through to the aluminum the tubes will protect themselves with a self healing oxide. There will be no red rust seen on this product.
- How strong is this fence?
- A: Very strong and many times stronger than wood or vinyl products. In fact you can put over 500 pounds on a 10 foot rail without damage. The rails and posts are aluminum extrusions with cold rolled steel tubing inside as reinforcement. This system is stronger than 13 gage steel tubing would be and stronger than 12 gage on the posts.
- Can I install the fence myself?
- A: Yes you can. The actual work to put this system up is all about setting the posts. The posts are designed to be planted 42 inches deep in the ground with at least a 9 inch diameter concrete footing. If you can put the posts in accurately and vertical you can build this fence. The construction process is easy and very fast after setting the posts.
- Can this product handle extremely cold or hot temperatures?
- A: Yes. This is an all metal product and each section is thermally independent of the next. Because of this there is no brittleness in the cold as with vinyl and there is no sagging in extreme heat. There are no thermal contraction or expansion issues as with plastic, wood or welded metal systems that have no expansion relief capabilities.
- Is this fence product friendly to the environment?
- A: Yes, very friendly, this product is of all metal construction with architectural grade powder coatings baked on at the factory. There are no chemicals like those found in treated wood or Pthalates such as those found in PVC products that you are hearing so much about these days. So there is no ground contamination or issues with horses chewing the product during cribbing as with wood or vinyl.
- Is this product horse friendly?
- A: Yes this product is very horse and livestock friendly and for the same reasons it is very people friendly. It is very easy to see as opposed to wire products. It is contact friendly because all of the product is rounded and blunt. There is no splintering or shards possible from cracking or weathering as with vinyl or wood. Upon impact there is a flex and rebound action unlike concrete. There are no wires or barbs to cut the animal and there are no nails or screws that can stick out and cause harm. It is smooth, blunt and flexible and will stay that way under all conditions of use.
- Is there a local fence installer for this product?
- A: Yes. Any reputable fence installer can install this product. We provide the materials and even the tools if needed. We provide simple but detailed instructions for installing the fence as well as the matching gates and latches to assure a beautiful finished product with lasting satisfaction for the owner. Some owners may choose to install this product themselves and the tools and instructions make it straightforward to a quality installation.
- How do I get started?
- First you need to plan your fence. This would include measuring out the property and planning the gates, corners and terminals that will be needed. You need to know your property lines and any building codes and restrictions such as set back that are mandated. You then can get an accurate estimate of the total project from us. All of this can be done by your local installer but for a ballpark estimate you will be pretty accurate with your own estimates. Call us with your data and we will give you a hardware price. Installation cost can then be estimated if you are going to contract that work. That is typically a charge amount per foot based upon the terrain and soil conditions.
- What is the lead time for building the fence?
- A: this is largely dependant on the backlog at the installer. This usually is estimated in weeks. Special colors are a 75 day lead time but white and black are stock items and can be transported to the job on short notice. It is always best to order as far ahead as possible to assure your order will be in stock and fulfilled when you are ready for it. Don’t wait till the last minute.
- What happens if a huge tree crashes down on the fence or a truck runs into it?
- A: If a section of the fence is damaged and in need of replacement, this system is extremely easy to replace. Just unbolt the couplings, drop the damaged sections out, slip on the new couplings and rails and it’s like new. If you need to replace a post, we recommend pulling out the old one including the footing and replacing it so you can keep your fence line straight.
Steel Board fence system:

- How strong is this fence?
- A: Very strong and many times stronger than wood or vinyl products. In fact you can put over 1000 pounds on a 10 foot rail without damage to the rail or post. The rails and posts are made with cold rolled steel welded tubing that is rolled into shape.
- Will my fence ever rust?
- A: The steel board fence system is made of two side zinc galvanized steel with a factory baked on architectural grade powder coating. Because of this the powder coating adheres very well and is applied uniformly to protect the metal like the body panels of your car. If the product is scratched through to the metal the boards will protect themselves with a self healing zinc galvanized coating. With this system no water can get under the coating as with wood so the coating and galvanizing prevent rust for over 20 years in normal environments. It’s like a car finish that remains parked for 20 years with no high speed gravel or salt impact.
- Can I install the fence myself?
- A: Yes you can. The actual work to put this system up is all about setting the posts properly. The posts are designed to be planted 43 inches deep in the ground with at least a 9 inch diameter concrete footing. If you can put the posts in to an accurate height, spacing and vertically straight then you can build this fence. The construction process is easy and very fast after setting the posts.

We recommend pulling out the old post of the damaged section including the footing and replacing it so you can keep your fence line straight. The new post can be moved into position next to the hole as the rails enter the punched rail holes when the post is lowered into the hole. As the post is lowered the rails will fully engage and you line up the post with the fence and adjust the height before applying the sack crete.
EZLatch:

- Can I use the EZLatch on smaller pipe gates and fences?
- The EZLatch is designed for use on pipe fences down to 1.25 inches in diameter and can mount on any size above this. In fact it is also designed to mount to flat surfaces such as those found on square wooden posts or even vinyl posts with internal reinforcement. The latch pin only requires a 3/8” drilled hole and access to the threaded end of the pin.
- Which sides of the gate can I open the latch from?
- The EZLatch comes in two styles, first the two way latch that can be opened out from either side and second the one way latch that is able to be set up to open either in or out and this is set up at installation.
- Do I have to dismount my horse to open the latch?
- No, you can lift the latch from your horse if you so choose. Be careful not to fall off. The latch is designed to open out from either side so the horse is not in the way of the gate swing. Just throw the gate back after exiting and the latch will catch the swinging gate.
- Will the latch rust up or bind?
- No, the latch box is a cast aluminum alloy with a baked on powder coat. The latch drop plates are heat treated steel with a high tech coating designed to prevent rust and the latch pin roller is stainless steel to stay looking good over time.
- Can I lock the latch?
- Yes, just put a standard pad lock through the hole in the upper box. Even a cable lock will work.
- How do I drill that 3/8” hole through the heavy pipe?
- To start the hole on line it is advisable to use a center punch. We recommend using a step drill. This easily starts a hole at a small size and steps up to larger and larger cutting holes until you are complete. This can be done by working your way up from a .125” drill to the .375”. This is fine but it takes longer. Soon we will be making a step drill available at an affordable price to speed up the job.
